I was just wondering, i know that the term newbie doesn't necesarily mean the number of posts, so i am just curious. How long before im not a newbie anymore? I seem to remember the definition of newbie expiring when you have the respect of fellow board members.

well, i dont concider me a newbie. have you finished most missions and taken some worlds and had the game a while?

It somewhat depends on how much knowledge you have I suppose...as well as a certain level
of maturity...but that's just my opinion...

(I conquered every planet, did every mission string, fly a UE cruiser with Bronev, neutron turrets, SAE's, Phase beams, and Azdara bay. oh, and plasma siphon, and Adzgari enh. shield upgrade. No cheats either. but i don't think my game skill counts as much toward my newbie status. does it?)

Ultra Phoenix is just about right. I, personally, never really considered myself in the same category as the stereotypical "newbie" - never overposting, only a few times asked rather simple questions, and the like. It's amount of knowledge - I used to know EV quite well, and what I didn't know I could find out quickly. Now, my plugging skills have rusted, but don't worry, I'll get them back in EVN for sure.

It is, I would agree, a combination of knowledge, maturity, attitude, familiarity with people, but most of all, acceptance into the community (which is based on the former points).

Of course, time around is not ignorable for reaching other statuses, I'd say. (I first played EV 1.0.1, and first posted...about...1996. Well before EVO.)

I don't mean to instigate something, there's already been a reminiscent string posted in B&B.; Anyway, personally, I'd probably say your are leaving newbie status, but still have a foot in the doorway...if that makes sense.

I think whether or not you're a newbie (both on the game and on the boards) depends on your experience, how long you've been there/been doing it. I signed up for the boards only 2 months ago (a few days more probably) but I've been playing EVO since the month it was released (ditto on EV).

P.S. Red, how am I supposed to know if you're a newbie if you've been registered longer than me?

Redchigh, as a newbie I don't consider you a newbie. You don't spam (unless this topic is spamming :)), you act in a mature way and you're friendly. I don't consider myself a newbie in the bad way that everybody says it.

But, getting back to the topic, I felt like a was a newbie for my first 100 or
so posts. Really, though, the point where you are no longer a newbie is actually
very early on - when you stop asking questions and start answering them, and when
you can say to yourself, "oh look, Starkiller is spamming again" or "Thunder is
finally back from his long holiday".

my personal favorite definition of a newbie was from someone who has been around since before me, lik jive, or was it SOB, oh well, it goes like this:
You are not a newbie when you are well known across the boards, doesn't have to be good, or bad, but you just have to be a name that people will readilly recognise and know your personality
