Phase Weaponry, Hunter Missiles, Monty Pythoning, a fast ship all come to mind. And hire a few escorts, I reccomend Aradas, not because I fly one, but because they are cheap (100K a piece for initial hiring) and effective.

Capture some Renegade Aradas from the South Tip. They are relatively easy to capture and they take down Renegade shields quickly.

If other Helians means what I think it does, he's in a Helian. The Helian is a good little combat courier, but if I were in Ninja's place I'd leave the Southern Renegades alone for a while, until I had something like an Arada or a Laz (if you like crescent ships) or a heavily modified UE Destroyer perhaps.
Getting something "faster than a turncoat" is not the answer, since the fighters it carries are the problem. Escorts are not the answer, because they often charge off after one enemy, and leave you to defend yourself against the rest.
Ninja, if faced with swarms of fighters in version 1.0.2, get yourself something fast, and Python them... at least cut down on the rate at which they overtake you. Fit multiple rocket launchers of some kind if you have the room, and lob rockets at the pack as they close with you.

I never experienced this problem because by the time I played it, I was in a CW. And by the time I get down there again after having conquered the Miranu (along with the Zidagar, Azdgari, and Igadzra already under my rule), I will be in an Igazra. As you can see, I never experienced much trouble with Kraits, but by the time they got into my weapons range phase poured down on them and annihilated them all.

Here's an idea, though it's borderline cheat. Open the file "Override Sounds" in ResEdit. Open the SND resource. In there, change resource 128 to another ID number that's not already taken. Name it something like "Warp Up Old". Now, record a new sound: press the record button and then stop immediately. Change your new sound to 128, name it "Warp Up", and there you go! You can just jump in to the system, and then immediately jump out.
