    • One lucky capture...

Once, right after I had started my own pilot in EVO, I was in my shuttlecraft, armed with three blaze cannons, and happened to be doing a cargo mission that brought me through the chorco system. Once I was in the pirate-infested system, a Turncoat happened to be present. I immediately started running away from the Turncoat far enough away that all the needle missiles ran out of fuel. Then the kraits, which are to fast to outrun, came towards me, but I somehow managed to blow them all up by heading away from them while firing as they came, even though I was on my armor by the time all three kraits were destroyed. I then waited for my shields to recharge, before attempting to make a suicide run on the Turncoat, usung my favorite strategy I used on the kraits. Once in firing range, I headed away from the Turncoat, going the same speed as the pirate ship, and staying away from its shorter-range turrets. After a minute or two, I managed to disable the ship, and I happily boarded it and stole the 68,000 credits carried by by the Turncoat. Then, just for the sake of it, tried capturing it. And would you believe it? The window came up and asked me if I wanted to use it as an escort or as my own ship! Of course, I decided to use it as my ship, but all I can say is, I was really proud of my shuttlecraft that day, being able to board and capture a Turncoat. 😃 I didn't keep the Turncoat for very long, since it is rather slow and vulnerable, so I sold it and got some big extra bucks on my hands.

I wanted to know if any of you have had similar experiences, where you're able to capture a ship much bigger then yours. They come as surprises sometimes. 🙂

Oh really? I've only heard the name Monty Python, otherwise I know nothing of it. Why is it called "The Monty Python?" All I know is that "the move" used against the Turncoat is a popular one, since it really works well against the big, sluggish ships that don't have speed.

    • Id on't know why it's called that. I think the Monty Python move is when you match speed with your enemy and fire back at them. They can't fire well, but you can. This is what you did, right?

Yeap, exactly...=) So I guess I know what to call that move now.

Have you ever had some lucky captures? One guy told me a long time ago that he was able to capture the Dreadnaught by aborting the UE mission right when he entered the system, fighting and disabling the Dreadnaught, then boarding it and attempting to capture it. Usually, of course, it failed, but he kept trying this over and over till he eventually captured it. Lucky guy. 🙂

LOL!!! Oh, now I get it. Makes sense. 😃 Thanks.

    • Oh yes, the lucky captures..

Like an Igazra with a Helian? Heh, gotta love those Zidagar, they just left it floating in space with a little merchant zipping about...

Hi! I'm Alien the Hinwar and I'm a stuiped jerk!
I'm big, mad, strong, and Hinwar! I yell 'LONG LIVE THE UE!', but I smash vikimadegie lovers every chance I get!
Cause I'm Alien the Hinwar and I'm a stuiped jerk!
I'm always making the mods mad doing something or another, but I'll never learn! I'll never turn! Look at my karma!

    • For a big ship, the Igazra has an apallingly low number of crew. I think it's because all the Iggies are so reclusive that they demand a lot of privacy, even on a warship. Anyway, the upshot of this is that if you want to play 'lucky captures', lurking in a strand war system and seeing what gets disabled, you're best off going for an Igazra.

The worst things about working for the Iggies are that (list=a)
() You can't do these easy captures, or your allies will get mad, and
      (
) If you're flying an Igazra, your capture odds will stink.
      (/list=a)
I think it's good that the (arguably) most powerful ship you can buy has a downside like this, though.

...btw, I think my luckiest capture was something pathetic like a Helian from a shuttle. I almost never go to war in the early phases of the game, and later when I capture things I have them just as escorts. I'll have to try and be more aggressive some time.

    • Lucky capture? Well, I did manage to capture a UE Carrier while flying a Lazira - the really lucky part was that I was on my way to pay a fine for buying space mines, so as soon as I completed the Pay Fine mission, I was considered a decent individual all over UE space. The moral of the story is, if you're going to commit a major act of piracy, follow it up with a minor act of responsible citizenship....

Haha!!! Hey, I like that. That dosen't occur very often. 😃 Some wimpy renegade vessel taking an Igazra...

Oh man. First of all, I don't know if trying to capture a UE carrier is worth trying, since it carries many crew members, and secondly, as you've said, is you will be on bad terms with the United Earth. But sounds like your capture paid off, and you got pretty lucky. 😃 That is funny, though.

    • If you have a Shuttle and are able to get near a Voinian Supply Ship, you can knock it out with a few shots and get a lot of free Cargo.

      😉

Hey, there's one I haven't tried very much. The better choice would be to use a scoutship, though, since it holds more cargo space. But either one works, I guess. 🙂

    • I've heard of people capturing Voinian Dreadnaughts. I also heard of this one guy who was somehow able to capture a disabled Voinian Cruiser.

    • Capturing Voinian Supply Ships or Freighters with a shuttle is pretty cool, because you can then actually take advantage of commodity trading properly.. I remember early on I used to go for one of those and then head down to Duios and Tibidat and do a nice run on Luxury goods and equipment :), and of course the benefit of doing it down there is you can get some defend us or kill this renegade missions after defending yourself from the renegades :).

But capturing anything bigger is something I haven't done much, mainly because I have never played in a situation where you can capture ships for yourself.. only as escorts or the game crashes.. but in one of my pilot files I have a miranu gunship with another one as escort, along with two laziras and crescent warships, and an igazra.. most of which I captured with a UE cruiser earlier on :).

    • Why would you people want a carrier over a laizra?

Yeah. Those who get a Dreadnaught without cheats are lucky ducks. I've been able to take over a Voinian Cruiser in my UE destroyer before, but I've only done it once. Your chances are one in a million against one of those giants.

    • I find the Voinian Cruiser quite usefull for capturing ships. There's only four ships that it can't always capture: UE Cruiser, Voinian Frigate, Voinian Dreadnaught, and (of course) another Voinian Cruiser. All other ships are easy for the Voinian Cruiser.
