Forget the topic there, I just have a simple question:

Anybody here have the URL to the telephone e-mail thing that Ryan Ballantyne did? I seem to recall that it went through him, me, perhaps Thursday, maybe Lobster, and then Divals killed the thing with his/her half-assed story.

Hoping for the URL, check folks later.

    • What are you talking about?

What else do you burn than witches?

      "The Holy Grail", Monty Python

    • Um...what?

    • These ppl don't know nothin bout Ryan and the discboard days forge... try mailing Lob, for he's the only one immediately accessable...ain't seen them others around for too long...

And for all of you idiots who can't help but respond...shutup unless you know...a post implying you don't know isn't worth posting...

      PEACE YO!

    • There's a good reason for posting when you don't know what somebody's talking about. If they look and see that nobody understands, they'll rephrase the question (hopefully). NOW I'll shut up.

    • In all honesty, my main reason for posting wasn't to find out where the phone story is, but to see the replies I would get. My prediction as to what would happen was unfortunately correct.

The initial prediction was that I would get most, if not all, of the replies from people who weren't on the real boards (much less the web-board) and wouldn't have any idea what I was talking about. These people would still of course feel a need to reply just to see their nick on their very own computer screen. This is mainly evidenced by the first two replies and the fourth reply. Kwanza was oddly helpful however, I had forgotten that Lobster is a moderator on the Nova board and that he might know where the story currently is (if it exists in the ether anymore).

This has been test of the "This isn't a real board" broadcasting system. Any questions can be directed to the UBB development staff at (url="http://"http://www.infopop.com")http://www.infopop.com(/url)

Thank you for your time and effort in developing this system.

    • Case in point.

Yet again, thanks for the proof.

    • Hey forge, your dazzling display of wisdom inspired me to look at your profile. As someone who is deeply involved in child protection issues, Id just like to ask you in what way child pornography is amusing? Or are you in fact a pornographer?

    • Rob, you clearly have no clue what you're talking about.

Speaking as someone who actually knows who the hell Forge is, no he's not porno. Most likely he just wrote that to see if anyone would actually believe it. I'm shocked that someone actually did.

Perhaps an odd joke, but a joke nonetheless. Its amazing that you took it seriously.

(This message has been edited by UE Crusader (edited 12-06-2000).)

    • Hey UE, I understand what you are saying, and no, i did not take it seriously, but there is just no circumstance in which child pornography is anything other than abhorrent. This web board is no place for discussions of this nature, nor is it the place to make light of such a serious issue. I was just shocked that something of that nature could escape the attention of the moderators et al. I have no issue with Forge as a person. I thought he was being a bit arrogant in this thread, and I just went to check out his personal stats to see who this guy was (after all, thats what they are there for eh). However, I dont think that any of us can feel comfortable as adults (which I am) unless we do all in our power to make sure that this issue is neither made light of, nor swept under the carpet.
Bear in mind though, that the majority of the users of this board will be minors. I just wanted to point out that perhaps it is inappropriate for something like that to be used as a joke within this context.
Nuff said, back to the fun and frolics of gaming!
      Best regards

    • Personally, I don't care who forge is.... just because people post saying stuff like "What do you mean?" doesn't give you any right to use your dazzling wit and charm to attempt to insult them.... how about answering their question? Or can't you step off your ****ing pedestal long enough to speak to us common peons?

Oh... and let me go back to your previous post....

I completely agree. Please refer to Kwanza's post as an answer to your question. I'm sure you'll find it to be quite complete.

As for "the common peons" remark, I don't think of many people as such. One reason for my tone might be that I am still not used to the UBB boards (actually, I can't stand the blasted things). That in itself happens to cover several reasons as to how I "behave" on these boards.

Another reason might be that I know very few people on the current boards. On the real EV/O boards I had posted to, replied to, helped, or been helped by virtually all of the regular board members at one time or another. I had many of them in my e-mail roster and in other lists for correspondence. I also knew many of their quirks and talents, same as most of them knew my little nuances and things I could help with.

I know virtually nothing about the new breed of users on this board. If I had ever posted such a topic on the real boards it would've been looked at, received at most two or three replies (all of which would probably have been at least slightly relevent), and then found what I was in search of.

This little test is my way of feeling around the boards. It might not be the best way in some people's eyes, but this is the way I happened to choose.

Kwanzar's post has nothing to do with answering my questions. And they're directed at you, so why don't you answer them?

Furthermore.... one reason for your tone is that you're not used to these boards? ****, they've been around for well over a year.... you'd think you might be used to them by now, huh? If not, that's your problem, don't give us crap about it.

You know virtually nothing of the posters on this "new" board? Well... we've been going at it for many many months.... once again, if you're a slow learner, that's not our problem.

And your tone is what I have a problem with. So, you posted on the old EVO boards... does that make you some god that should be feared and respect by all of us "new" people? And your comment about not wanting an answer to your original question, just wanting to see who will reply.... well, look at that from outside yourself. You sound like a self-absorbed prick.

forge was a well respected member of the old EV/EVO discboards, many people liked him, including me. He's a lot smarter than you, if you knew what was good for you, you'd leave this alone. And what gives you the right to flame other people because you don't like their tone? You aren't a moderator. He's only describing his dislike of the new UBB, something many have done before, and all the people who responded who weren't helpful, he just told them how useless their posting was. And indeed it was a waste of time on their part to say I don't know to a question that wasn't even directed at them. Point is, its not your place to be telling forge what to do, and not to do, or even telling newbies in the rude way you and your friends do it of "SEARCH THEN ASK" its really anoying, the whole point of a BB is so people can ask questions and discuss things, not be flamed for what they ask.

      Oh, the mighty Chamrin.
      Let's begin, shall we?
How do you know if he's "smarter" than me? How do you know anything about me? Sure, you know forge, but you've got half the story, so I don't see what gives you the right to jump in on this, moderator or not.

Let's see... what gives me the right to flame people because I don't like their tone?... Well, nothing gives me the right to. I do what I feel is best for myself, for others, etc, etc. And in this case, having some random person, who I know nothing about (yeah, I said before, I don't CARE who he is or how much you may like him) come to a board, ask a question that is VERY vague, (and, not at all EVO related. Seems you mods go slap happy on moving threads... why not this one?), and then says that he posted it to see what stupid replies he could get, gives me the right to disagree with his tone.

But, then again..... I, the lowly webboard peon, have no rights. Because I'm not a mod, or even a "well respected member"... Sheeeeesh. kiss my ass.

One last side thought, about the Search then ask. I'm not part of that. As you see, I have Search, inc. I do not yell at people to search, I put a link to the search feature in some random sentence.

    • I think Flatty has a right to feel however he wants about forge or any other member of this board, including moderators. However, he might have been a little more tactful. And when you think about it, posting about a weird topic to see if he got any replies is a pretty stuck-up move by forge. Of course, Kwansa's post would have been useful if forge actually meant what he said about wanting to get in touch with Ryan. I don't blame Flatty for any of this. He wondered what forge was talking about, and said so. forge replied that he was just testing to see if any "new people" replied. I think that's a little bit of not-so-subtle contempt for all these newfangled young people who use UBB. This whole thread was rather pointless. Which is why I'm replying to it. 😄

      Out of innocent curiosity, what was the title about? W A V M O R T L % or something? Huh?

      ------------------
Macintosh for productivity, Linux for development, Palm for mobility, and Windows for Solitaire.

    • Well, the title started out as the regular Farlero departing statement: W A V E. Then it just got a little weird.

I have also e-mailed both Ryan (at the e-mail I have for him, which is a couple years old) and Lobster regarding this. My interest was quite genuine.

And in all honesty, the test idea hadn't even entered my mind until I saw what replies I was getting. It all started out as just a simple question, but developed into something else the moment I read the first few replies (excluding Kwanza's). Although this has ended up being the shortest way to a string of flame since the infamous Gay Teletubbie incident which resulted from my long-time sig.
