Even if you meant it, I would hardly be offended, because I only take offense to people whom I deeply respect and they disrespect me. I would be amused, if anything, if people whom I did not respect at all insulted me.

This gets really complicated because the insult itself may drastically change a person's view of another, so one whom I respected may not be so well respected by me if he swore at me (and meant it) uncreatively for no good reason in any perspective.

Also, I may actually gain respect for someone whom I would otherwise disrespect if he insulted me creatively. That is, if he was funny or brought up painfully true points in criticism.

My point is... it's not the word that offends (or it shouldn't, IMO), it's how it is used and by whom, and the circumstances under which it is said. Heck, it is easily possible to offend someone to the extreme using no foul slang language at all.

Insult really is an art, and is not as simple as using a 4-letter word (well for me at least, it is).

"Ah, go shove it up yer pineapple and prefix a nacho, you salad-dressing lemon monkey." 🙂

    • I don't intend to delete this string. It's not like it's spread across many strings and spammed up the EVO forum. In my opinion, it is a valid discussion concerning what is acceptable behavior on these boards.

BTW, Oedipus, please watch your language. Quoting someone else just to have the opportunity to gratuitiously swear and use insulting language isn't a good thing, okay?

Be kind to each other, everyone. Have fun.

    • Well... ummm.... you sure showed him, didn't you?

Swearing is a natural part of life, I think... I mean, I'm playing soccer, I have a bad touch... I yell "****". It makes me feel better. I'm at school, and I get a test back. I get a "D". I yell "son of a bizzzzznitch!" It makes me feel better (also gets me a trip to "office"). However, swearing at people to try to insult them is kinda pathetic... as someone above said (sorry, I'm in a rush, didn't check name), you should only feel insulted by people who actually mean something to you.

      Peace.

    • Ah.

So, just to take Jude at her word here, I've gone off and spammed up the entire EVO boards with this string...

Well, no, I haven't. But it would be interesting. It's nice to know that I'm part of a "Valid Discussion".

With regards to being offended by swearing, and all that respect stuff, yeah, I'd have to agree with it. The happy thing is that nobody here respects me above the fact that I'm a fellow sentient lifeform, so I should be able to shoot of my mouth in any way that suits me, right?

      Heh. No, I'm just kidding.

And no, we shouldn't go and spam the board. Or let anything get out of hand. That's what rabbited up the old Discboards, and they died.

But to ask a similar question... what discussion topics are allowed here? I frequent (url="http://"http://blazer.his.com/evo/")Blazer's Alternative Board(/url) too, and you can talk about anything thre. Absolutely. There was an interesting debate centered around raping cats, quite recently. Don't worry, the guilty party has been forgiven.

Of course now we have our "Peaceful Trading Police" - none of that should happen. Wonder what her combat rating is? I've been thinking of going on a përs hunt...

    • Sorry to drag this topic up again... but I've noticed something.

A few posts back, I mentioned using "rabbit" instead of f*ck... and since then, a couple of people here (dammit, I'm no good at names) have started using it frequently.

My point is, since it means the same thing in context, why haven't the moderators cut it out? It seems the actual word itself is the offensive bit, and not the fact that it's gained "swearing status". So now that Rabbit is a swearword, at least equal to f*ck, why is it tollerated?

      Just a thought...

    • Perhaps you could use "Bunny" to magnify the word, as in "YOU BUNNY-RABBITING RABBITER!!! I'LL FIRE YOUR BUNNY-RABBITING SNIVELLING WET REAR OFF!!!"

Of course, this would only be used in extreme cases, such as when you want to light some one's hair on fire but are too lazy to march over there with a torch and do it personally. 😉

Because some people have this silly notion that words, in themselves, offend people, and that referencing such a word indirectly will retain the potency (to some degree) but lack the silly "offensive characteristic" of the original word. Read my opinion of the concept of insult up above.

I'm getting sick of coming back to hangar ninety six, but there is no avoiding it. This is what my existence needs.
My existence is the demise of many others' arms and legs. The world is not a good place, nor is there innocence for me
to hide in. Seven hundred and sixty one pairs of eyes look around the room aimlessly, and mine join the crowd. I see
these bodies, massacred, immobile. For all the carnage here, the stench of decay is non-existent.

    • I did, of course.

And I think that back then, I even replied to it.

But I'd like (just for the heck of it) to see people spelling "Rabbit" as "R*bbit" because, apparently, the inclusion of an asterix makes swearing ok.

Fck that. Are these people fcking stupid? What the f*ck's going on?

You take my point, I hope. There's something wrong with Humans in general. Let's kill 'em all and start afresh.
